Yes, I have fucked up ways of dealing with emotions. Get over it. It’s actually very good that I no longer work in Rockefeller Center, as it was way too easy to mask my emotions with retail therapy there. Many a day when shit was making me :( or :| or :\ or :& (whatever that last one is), I would dash out and furiously pace around the block, landing at H&M or J. Crew, caressing the merino sweaters or chintzy synthetic fabrics, then I would black out and end up back at my office with a $25 headband or a handful of cheap necklaces. And I wonder why I got rid of literally 10 huge garbage bags of clothing and crap when I moved out.

Anyway, I just don’t know what to get. Meh. Whine. How unsatisfactory. I don’t want to actually go to a store and try stuff on (too much effort). And what I really need is a new bathing suit and there’s nothing like trying on bikinis to send a fragile psyche over the edge. Better not chance it.

Perusing Amazon accessories is not helping. Also, the point is IMMEDIATE satisfaction, not satisfaction two weeks from now when this shit arrives in the mail. Blergh. Now this inability to make a frivolous purchase is going to further exacerbate my sense of incompetence and failure. WAAHHHHH. I better go to K-mart and buy a bunch of cosmetic products and Hanes cottonwear before this crisis reaches a boiling point.

Katie and the Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Week

I feel like puking and crying at the same time. I pulled out this DVD last night for the first time and OH HO what I have been missing. “Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat” is a gem on the level of “Troll 2”. It’s like one step up from “Troll 2” in terms of production value and acting (and if you haven’t seen “Troll 2”, run, don’t walk to Hulu for a cinematic treat unlike any other). The Sundown cast is also amazing: Bruce Campbell (greatest actor of our time), David Carradine (RIP), Maxwell Caulfield (you know him as Rex Manning from “Empire Records”), Bobby from Twin Peaks (sorry, buddy, that’s your name now), and some wonderful child actresses to give Tatum O’Neal or Margaret O’Brien a run for their money. Basically there’s a Southwestern town populated by vampires who are trying to wean themselves from human blood and have created a blood synthesizing factory. How do they protect themselves from the sun’s deathly rays? Why with a little something called SPF 100, straw hats and large fashionable sunglasses. I can’t decide which detail I love more: the stop-motion bat animation or the LA rocker vampires named Chad and Burgundy. The clip above is some crappy fan edit trailer, but I can’t find the real trailer. Anyway, Lionsgate released it on DVD last year, and it heartens my soul to know I was doing God’s work in publicizing this wonderful film.

Songs that have been stuck in my head since last week

1. I was thinking about getting home, throwing a Fresh Air on the ipod, taking the pups for a walk, making pasta for my parents, and then throwing a DVD on the ol’ tube . It made me feel very contented. When I was in NYC last year and stressed and unhappy and hating life and my job, I often came home and cooked elaborate meals for myself (yeah, that’s fucking pathetic, cooking giant meals for one, and yes I was aware of it at the time). Aside from the pathetic aspect, cooking was very soothing and made me happy and completely consumed my ever-active mind. It was sort of a mindless activity that allowed me to wind down and think about something aside from life, work, anxieties, etc. You know how dogs have to circle themselves before they lie down? I’m kind of like that; I need a lot of wind down time before I can relax. So as I was driving home yesterday, I started to compile a list of things, like cooking, that are necessary to my mental and physical health and well-being. Or, gosh darn it, they just make me happy. Here goes said list of necessary components:

- Cooking

- Pets/Animals

- Yoga

- Coffee

- Wine

- TV on DVD

- NPR Podcasts (nerd alert!!!)

- The New Yorker

- Club Soda (debilitating addiction)

- Lavendar Oil (OMG, my friend Alisha turned me onto this, put it on the soles of your feet before bed, best sleep aid since yoga and margaritas)

- Sunshine/Vitamin D

- Veggie Burgers

- Youtube (ok I just really like Youtube)

Ok I think that’s all for now. I can’t think of any more and I have to go write some blog posts for work!

A.O. I just answered the phone at work by saying, “Encoder….” I’m sure our client appreciated that. 5 fitful hours of anxiety sleep two nights in a row plus the mind fuck of trying to figure out how to convert MP4 files (seriously, EFF WINDOWS) has rendered me completely incoherent.
